NFS with VMware

I came across this blog post, and it piqued my interest.

http://blogs.netapp.com/virtualization/2009/02/mythbusters-nfs.html

It briefly suggests that NFS is a viable alternative for VMware instead of SAN. I don't have the resources or clout to try this, but I'm curious to how well NFS would work. This information could potentially be useful for people that don't use NetApp also.

I never got VMware to like locking files over NFS. I may not have done it right, either.

For the record, we _do_ use NFS in production environs, though, despite what the article's myth #4 asserts.

It works, and works well, provided you have a good backend network for it.

You can also back it up very easily, the netapp snapshots and deduplications play very nicely with VMFS.
